SIT DOWN galleryGallery SIT DOWN
Françoise Bornstein opened the gallery SIT DOWN in December 2005, in Paris. In the heart of the famous area called « Le Marais », next to the Picasso Museum, SIT DOWN displays figurative contemporary art. The gallery exhibits furniture, fashion or jewellery designers’ works; it also works with photographers, videasts, illustrators or painters. The programm of the temporary exhibitions is then strongly cross-border. Françoise Bornstein also permanently displays in the gallery her own editions of removable designed furniture, such as the DADDY sofa or the removable table mOOve.Thus, through the successive exhibitions, a recurrent mix between design, contemporary art and photography can be found. This aspect is precisely what makes the specificity of this gallery where it is nice to sit down. Beyond the walls… In 2007, the gallery took part in the « Off des Rencontres Photographiques d’Arles », with the exhibition of the set « Sweet Surrender » by Rachel Levy. The pieces were displayed in the gallery Via Julia / Huit. The same year, the contemporary Art Fair SLICK invited SIT DOWN to exhibit in the VIP space of the Fair. On that occasion, for the first time in France, the gallery presented « Homelette », the work by designer Valentina Audrito influenced by the shape of the egg. In July 2008, SIT DOWN exhibited, for the second time in Arles and in the gallery Huit, works by Catherien Noury, in an exhibition called « L’éternelle fiancée ». In March 2009, Sit Down took part in the drawing Art Fair « Slick dessin » and, in October 2009, the gallery exhibited on SLICK, at the « 104 » in Paris.
